Chamber Business Awards 2016
The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce (GNCC) is the representative organ of the business community in Ghana that seeks to promote and protect the commercial and industrial interests in the country
From the colonial era, through independence and post-independence era, the Chamber has contributed immensely to the economic development of the country mainly through trade and investments.
With its mandate enshrined in LI 611 of 1968 (Act 262), the Chamber is enjoined to provide leadership for the growth and prosperity of businesses in Ghana. As an autonomous business support organisation, the Chamber promotes and protects the interest of businesses by serving as a link between established businesses, the emerging sector, and government at the various levels while offering our members a myriad of business support services towards the general development of the Ghanaian economy.
As part of efforts to foster ethical practices and promote businesses, the Chamber has initiated the GNCC Business Awards to celebrate the very best and finest of Ghanaian businesses that have demonstrated excellence in leadership and innovation in contributing to the socio-economic development of Ghana.
The theme for the maiden awards is “Enterprises in Transition: Recognizing Innovative Businesses in Ghana”.
Objectives of the Awards;
To acknowledge and celebrate key businesses and personalities who have contributed meaningfully to business practice in Ghana.
To inspire and promote the entrepreneurial spirit in the Ghanaian by highlighting the success stories of outstanding award winners.
To unearth the depth of existing talents in the country by recognizing excellence in Corporate Reputation Management (CRM).
To promote high professional standards.
To highlight the vital role of the Chamber in championing advocacy and networking
The Awards Dinner Night will be held on Saturday, 25th November, 2017 at the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra, 6:00pm.
The event will be strictly by invitation and will include members of the Chamber, government officials, representatives of the private sector and the business community, civil society organisations, academia, and international partners.
Special Guest of Honour will be H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana.
The award is opened to registered businesses in the country. The criteria for selection will also focus on the following:
1. Annual Turnover, Profit & Tax Compliance
2. Thought Leadership Engagements
3. Innovation & Technology
4. Customer Service Schemes
5. Employment Creation & People Management
6. Corporate Social Responsibility
7. Environmental Management & Corporate Reputation Management (CRM)
Businesses can nominate themselves or other entities. Nominations are not limited to only one category.
The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce, in its quest to give a high level of Credibility, Trust, Independence and Recognition to the awards has engaged the services of a reputable accounting firm to adjudicate the nomination and selection of award winners.
Below is the selection process;
Nominations open on 13th June, 2017 and ends midnight of 7th July, 2017
Vetting & short listing of Nominations done by Awards Planning & Selection Committee
Shortlisted Nominees will be written to and requested to respond to a set of questionnaires/criteria with respect to their various categories
Receipt of filled questionnaires closes midnight of August 31st , 2017
Panel with the supervision of Adjudicator will review all qualified entries and select Winners for the various categories
Award winners will be presented to the Chamber Council as final arbiters
Final winners will be announced and will receive their awards on the Awards Dinner Night on 25th November, 2017
The Awards will be done in three sections. The first section of the Awards will have 16 categories with emphasis on excellence and quality in service and product delivery:
• Agriculture (Primary)
• Arts and Crafts
• Automobile &Dealership
•Building & Civil Engineering Contractors
• Emerging Business of the Year
• Fashion Design
• Guest Accomodation
• Mining / Oil & Gas
• Passenger Transport
• Professional Services (excluding Banks & Insurance)
• Trading (Retailing / Wholesaling)
The second section of the Awards will have 3 categories:
• Young Entrepreneur of the Year
• Chamber Business Man of the Year
• Chamber Business Woman of the Year
The third section of the Awards will be a Special Award to the deserving Chamber Members/ Personalities.
